I selected a short excerpt from “Improvisation C Major Blues” to focus on to begin to use the objects to compose, using their physical properties to make decisions, rather than just to notate.

I built four frames for the blocks to perform within and changed the composition of the objects daily. I tested the way the blocks could balance on different faces, made patterns with their colours, stacked them together, and experimented with how the blocks could interrupt the frames.
The transitioning composition was documented photographically on a monitor in an adjacent space. I wanted to capture the compositions of the blocks as they changed, but I am still working to understand the relationship between the images I take of these compositions and their physical presence.
